Complete Valheim Guides Hub

Valheim 1.0 is the finished Viking survival game from Iron Gate AB and Coffee Stain Publishing. Early Access launched on 2 February 2021. The 1.0 build shipped on 9 September 2026 with the Deep North, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, and full crossplay. The $29.99 Steam copy (app 892970) still updates for everyone who bought during Early Access.

This hub is the reading order we use on a new seed. Valheim does not level you with XP gates. It levels you with biomes. Each region hides a Forsaken boss, a metal tier, and a food ladder. Skip a step and the next forest simply kills you. Start with Getting Started if you just spawned, then keep this page open as a map of every walkthrough.

First hours and inputs

Your first night is always the same: punch trees, pick stone and flint, craft a hammer, roof a workbench, light a fire, and claim a bed. Getting Started walks that loop through two deer trophies and Eikthyr. Iron Gate recommends a new world for 1.0. Old saves keep your halls, but Deep North generation only fills chunks nobody has loaded. If you already sailed the empty north, those tiles stay empty.

Learn the keyboard and pad on Controls before you fight. WASD, block, and the hammer’s right-click menu matter more than any later recipe. The F5 console and devcommands live on the console commands page; turning them on disables 1.0 achievements, so keep a clean character if you care about that list.

Biomes and bosses

There are eight boss biomes in intended order: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands, Deep North. Biomes lists what each zone unlocks — swamp keys, wishbones, artisan tables, wisps, ceramic plates, Bloodgold — so you do not mine silver before you can detect it. Ocean water is the travel layer, not a ninth boss step.

Bosses covers Vegvisirs, altars, summons, weaknesses, trophy powers, and the eight kills from Eikthyr through Kall Fimbulbringer. Hang each trophy at the spawn stones. The Forsaken power on Q is a five-minute buff with a long cooldown; swap it when the next biome’s damage type changes. Weapon and armor picks sit on the tier list once you outgrow flint.

Base, food, and the ocean

A hut that says Shelter is not a base. Building explains workbench radius, smoke holes, integrity colors, comfort, the iron-gated stone cutter, and the Deep North shovel that has to clear snow before pieces will sit. Build close to a Meadows–Black Forest border for the first month; you want copper without sleeping in troll country.

Food is the real health bar. You have three slots. Mix a health dish, a stamina dish, and later an eitr dish instead of triple berries. Mead kettles cover frost, poison, and fire. Ranked recipes live on the food tier list.

You will not finish Valheim on foot. Sailing runs raft to karve to longship, wind, rudders, serpents, and Moder’s tailwind. Default worlds still block ore and most metals through portals. Plan coasts and carts, or flip the rule on world modifiers before you generate the seed.

Endgame and a group

Deep North is the 1.0 finale: storms, Gammeltrolls that petrify, Ember Charges into Petrified Tissue into Bloodgold, Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln, Nord weapons, rideable moose, seals, Elakings, Winding Tunnels, the Gates of Mörkhalla, and Kall Fimbulbringer. Craft the grappling hook in the Mistlands before those shafts. The dedicated Kall Fimbulbringer page covers Malicious Blood, the Aesir Passage, and the multi-phase prison fight. Patch context sits on Valheim 1.0.

Multiplayer covers hosting from the menu, the Steam dedicated server, the ten-player cap, join codes, and crossplay across Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2. There is no built-in voice chat. For who should carry which role in a raid, use Players. The wiki index and updates catch patch notes after you leave this hub.

Do not open the Deep North in padded Plains gear. Do not sail a raft into serpent weather. Do not drop a longhouse on a swamp crypt roof. Follow the pages above in order and the game’s own metal ladder does the rest.
