Valheim World sliders, console, map, and F2

The practical tools in 1.0 — modifiers first, cheats second.

World Modifiers Tools Hub

The tool that is already in the menu

Valheim does not ship a separate companion app. The useful “tools” are inside the client: world modifiers when you create or configure a seed, the map, the F2 overlay, and — if you host locally — the console. This Tools Hub points at those, with the world modifiers page as the practical deep dive.

Modifiers are how a group changes the game without installing plugins. Combat, Death Penalty, Resources, Raids, and Portals each have a slider. Presets bundle them: Normal, Casual, Easy, Hard, Hardcore, Hammer. Extra toggles cover No Build Cost, Player-Based Raids, Passive Enemies, No Map, and Fire Hazards. Default portal rules still block metals and ores; Casual portals relax that. Hammer is a creative preset and counts as a temporary cheat for achievements.

If your clan only wanted “less punishing deaths” or “we can portal iron,” you do not need god. You need the modifiers page. If you wanted a statue garden with no raids, Hammer or No Build Cost plus Passive Enemies is the honest setting, not a secret spawn command.

Console, map, and F2

Power users still want the F5 console for save, ping, kick/ban, and — on player-hosted worlds — devcommands. That entire workflow, including Xbox button combos and the achievement warning, lives on the console commands hub. Do not paste cheat strings into a vanilla dedicated server and assume they will fire.

The map is a tool you can turn off. No Map (and the Immersive-style bundle) forces landmark navigation: rivers, stone circles, unique trees. That is a blast for a prepared crew and misery if one player still expected a ping. Agree before character creation. Portals become more valuable when the map is blank; label them in the world, not only on a screenshot in Discord.

F2 opens the debug stats overlay: FPS, position, and related connection numbers. Use it when someone says “the swamp is lagging” and you need to know whether the host is at 25 FPS or the raid just exploded 80 bodies. It is not a cheat. It does not disable achievements. Turn it off when you are done; the numbers add clutter in a blizzard.

Dedicated hosts should still keep OS-level tools in mind (backups of world files, adminlist edits while the process is stopped). Those are covered with join codes on the players hub. This hub will not recommend third-party map websites as required reading; they go stale the moment a 1.0 seed generates new Deep North coast.

What to open next

When Iron Gate ships a hotfix that adds a slider, it will show up on the modifiers article and in the updates hub. Until then, treat the 1.0 set as complete: five sliders, the listed presets, the extra toggles, map, F2, and console.

A common mistake is mixing tools. People turn on Casual portals, then also spawn iron, then complain that achievements vanished. Pick a lane. Survival worlds use modifiers and food. Creative worlds use Hammer and debugmode. Screenshot worlds can use explorermap. Mixing all three on the seed you wanted for Kall Fimbulbringer is how you spend a Saturday restoring a backup.

Another mistake is teaching a new player F5 before they learn to repair a hammer. Send them getting started first. The Tools Hub is here when the group is ready to name the rules out loud.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Viking questions.

What is the main Valheim 'tool' on this wiki?

World modifiers. They change combat, death, resources, raids, and portals without cheats. Full slider notes: world modifiers.

Is the console a tool or a cheat menu?

Both. ping/save/kick are admin tools. god/spawn need devcommands and disable achievements that session. See console commands.

What does F2 do?

It toggles a stats overlay (FPS, position, connection). It is safe to use on any world and is not a cheat toggle.

Can I turn the map off?

Yes — the No Map extra (and similar presets). Agree with the whole co-op group first; it cannot be a one-player surprise.

Does Hammer mode affect achievements?

Hammer is treated as a temporary cheat. Use a separate creative seed if you still want the 53 1.0 achievements on a survival character.
