All eight Valheim bosses
Vegvisirs, altars, summons, weaknesses, trophies, and Forsaken powers.
Valheim 1.0 has eight Forsaken bosses, one per biome: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader, and Kall Fimbulbringer. You can wander into a later altar early. You should not fight it early. Each kill drops a trophy for the spawn stones plus a progression item the next biome is built around.
Bring the current region’s food, a portal behind a ridge, and a weapon that matches the weakness. Hang the trophy, press Q for the Forsaken power (about five minutes on, long cooldown), then move the armor ladder. Kall is the exception: Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel instead of another Q power.
Finding Vegvisirs and altars
Vegvisir stones are the runes that stamp a boss altar on your map. Eikthyr’s stone is at the sacrificial circle where you spawn. The Elder’s Vegvisirs sit in Black Forest Burial Chambers. Bonemass stones are inside Sunken Crypts (Swamp Key required). Moder stones appear in Mountain frost caves and near towers. Yagluth stones sit around Plains stone circles. The Queen’s stones are in Infested Mines. Fader’s stones hide in Charred Fortresses. Kall’s Vegvisir is in the Deep North near the Aesir Passage.
Altars are outdoors except The Queen (Infested Citadel) and the Deep North finale (Aesir Passage / prison). Clear the ring of trees and rocks so you can kite. Place a portal just outside aggro, not on the offering bowl. Bosses can be resummoned; the offering is consumed every time. If the world already killed a boss, the altar still works for farming trophies.
Eikthyr through Moder
Eikthyr (Meadows). Offer two deer trophies. Lightning stabs and a hoof slam. Wood shield, leather, flint spear or crude bow. Drop: trophy plus hard antlers for the antler pickaxe. Power: huge cut to run, jump, and swim stamina. This is the Getting Started boss; if you die here, you are fighting hungry.
The Elder (Black Forest). Offer three ancient seeds from greydwarf nests or brutes. He slams vines and throws stumps. Fire arrows melt him; kiting the pillars is the fight. Drop: trophy plus the Swamp Key. Power: faster chop and pickaxe, plus extra health regen. Do not stand in the vine root.
Bonemass (Swamp). Offer ten withered bones from crypts. He is a poison sponge that summons adds. Blunt weapons (iron mace) and fire; he shrugs off pierce. Poison resist mead is not optional. Drop: trophy plus the Wishbone for buried silver. Power: resistance to blunt, slash, and pierce — the best “I am about to be hit” power in the game. Build a small dry platform so you are not fighting in knee water.
Moder (Mountains). Offer three dragon eggs. Eggs are heavy and cannot portal on default rules, so sail or cart them. She lands, screams, and spit-freezes. Pierce bows while she flies; melee the landings. Frost resist is required. Drop: trophy plus dragon tears for the Artisan Table. Power: always tailwind while sailing. Fight on a flattened ridge; she loves knocking you off cliffs.
Yagluth, The Queen, Fader
Yagluth (Plains). Offer five fuling totems from villages or berserkers. He is a giant skull: fire meteors, nova, slam. Frostner or other frost/spirit hits harder than yet another fire sword. Fire resist mead plus padded armor. Drop: trophy plus torn spirits for Wisp Fountains. Power: lightning resist, extra farming skill, and a damage bump. Clear the altar of fulings before you offer or you fight a village and a god.
The Queen (Mistlands). She is already in the Infested Citadel. Craft the Sealbreaker from nine fragments in Infested Mines, open the door, and walk in. Seekers, staff attacks, and a cramped indoor arena. Carapace or eitr-weave, mist vision, and food that includes eitr if you staff-fight. Drop: trophy plus majestic carapace for the Artisan Press / ceramic plates. Power: doubled eitr regen, free sneak stamina, poison resist. Bring portals for corpse runs; the citadel is a maze when you are naked.
Fader (Ashlands). Craft three bells from nine bell fragments in Charred Fortresses, hang them on the Emerald Flame holders, and ring. Fire everywhere. Frost weapons, fire resist, and flametal or Ask/Embla sets. Drop: trophy plus Fader relic for the Eternal Pyre. Power: doubled adrenaline gain, stagger resistance, fire resist. Beat him before you treat the Deep North as a sightseeing trip.
Kall Fimbulbringer
Kall Fimbulbringer (Deep North) is the 1.0 final boss, a frost jotunn. The full summon chain lives on How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer. Short version: Aesir Passage Vegvisir, Intricate Keys from Winding Tunnels, Malicious Ice in Mörkhalla, Jotun invasions, then three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl.
Fire and mobility beat a pure frost kit. Bring Bloodgold Nord weapons, Deep North armor, and a shoveled arena so you can build cover. Drops include Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel for the Crown of Valheim and the ending. He does not hang a classic Forsaken power; the reward is the close of the saga.
Resummon earlier bosses if you need a trophy again. Do not farm Kall until Bloodgold gear is real. Raid groups should assign a shield, a bow, and a corpse-runner; Multiplayer and Players cover who holds the portal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Viking questions.
How do I find a Valheim boss altar?
Activate a Vegvisir rune in that biome’s dungeon or landmark. Eikthyr is marked at spawn. The rest are listed above and on Biomes.
What do I offer to summon each boss?
2 deer trophies, 3 ancient seeds, 10 withered bones, 3 dragon eggs, 5 fuling totems, Sealbreaker (9 fragments), 3 bells (9 fragments), then 3 Malicious Blood for Kall.
Which boss should I use a mace on?
Bonemass. He resists pierce and slash. Bring blunt and fire, plus poison resist from the food mead line.
Does Kall Fimbulbringer give a Forsaken power?
He finishes the story with Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel rather than a typical Q power. Prep is on Deep North.
Can I take dragon eggs through a portal?
Not on default worlds. Eggs, ore, and most metals stay out. Change world modifiers or sail them in.
What does hanging a trophy do?
It unlocks that boss’s Forsaken power at the spawn stones. Press Q in the field. Swap powers when the next biome changes damage type.
