Valheim 1.0 Deep North Patch

Launch day facts

Valheim 1.0 shipped on 9 September 2026, five years after Early Access (2 February 2021). Iron Gate AB developed it; Coffee Stain Publishing released it. The headline is the Deep North, the last planned biome, plus a long list of tools, foods, and quality-of-life fixes. PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 launched the same day. Steam (Windows, Mac, Linux) and Xbox One / Series updated in place. Full crossplay is on. Co-op remains 1–10 players online. Price is $29.99; Early Access owners updated free. Expect about 4.3 GiB to download.

Iron Gate recommends a new world if you want Deep North (and earlier biomes) generated as designed. Old seeds still receive 1.0 systems, but new land logic paints onto unexplored terrain only. Characters can travel. Mods need time after the Unity engine upgrade; there is no official mod support.

Abbreviated content list from the launch notes:

  • New biome: Deep North, ending with boss Kall Fimbulbringer
  • 40+ weapons, new bombs and ammunition
  • 4 armor sets, 2 capes, 2 trinkets, new tools
  • 10+ creatures, new locations, music, and events
  • 80+ build pieces plus extra crafting stations
  • 30+ crafting materials, 20+ foods
  • Upgradeable pockets (bought and expanded via Haldor)
  • 53 achievements
  • Draw-distance graphic setting, hammer and serving-tray menu overhaul
  • Magica cloth, overhauled item descriptions
  • Ashlands enemy spawn rebalance
  • All hair and beard styles available from the start
  • Unity engine upgrade and a long tail of fixes

Deep North in practice

The Deep North is a frostbite biome, not a reskin of the Mountains. Wolf armor is not a full answer. You craft Nord weapons and armor from Bloodgold, which does not play like a simple smelter bar: petrified troll tissue, molds from Winding Tunnels or the Gates of Mörkhalla, then a Frost Foundry with liquid frost. Infusions split into Frostfire (fire plus frost, less raw physical) and Thunderblood. Named examples include Nord swords and greatswords, atgeirs, maces, sledges, crossbows, and staves such as Lightning Strike, Echo Spike, Spirit Caller, and Northern Vengeance.

Armor splits by job. Protector is the heavy melee set. Vanguard cuts stamina drain for agile and ranged kits. Caller is the eitr / staff line. A fourth 1.0 set and the two capes cover remaining slots; Crown of Valheim and related pieces show up in the detailed notes. Eat Deep North food — lingonberries, kale, moose, seal, and the cooked or smoked plates built from them — before you treat flametal meals as enough. Creature highlights include Gammeltrolls, Barka, seals, and the rest of the 10+ roster. Full route notes belong in the Deep North guide, the grappling hook page, and How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer. 1.0 also adds Jotun invasions, alternate outer-edge biomes, a snow shovel, frozen seas, and the Mistlands grappling hook.

Building gets 80+ new pieces and a hammer menu that is actually searchable. Magica cloth adds better fabric motion on capes and banners. Draw distance is a real setting now, which matters on a ten-person dedicated box. Ashlands spawn rates were retuned so that biome is not an accidental meat grinder on the way north. Pockets mean fewer trips once Haldor has taken your coins; metals still do not teleport on default portal rules.

Platforms, price, and achievements

PS5 and Switch 2 are 1.0 launch clients, not later ports. Crossplay join codes work the same as they did on Xbox: pause menu, copy code, Add server. Hosts should read the players hub before mixing five consoles and a rented dedicated process. Vanilla dedicated servers still block devcommands; the Hammer world preset still counts as a temporary cheat. The 53 achievements will not pop in a session where you turned cheats on — see console commands if you need that distinction.

Existing EA saves are not deleted. You are not charged again. A friend buying today pays $29.99 (regional storefronts may differ). If your group lived in a 2021 seed, walk unexplored edges or start fresh; do not expect glaciers to overwrite a fully mapped Meadows.

Returning players should refresh weapons, armor, and food because flametal is no longer the last word. New players should ignore the north entirely until getting started and the biomes ladder say otherwise. World sliders did not vanish; they are documented under world modifiers.

Patch hygiene: install the client, confirm the version string with your crew, then decide on a new seed. Mixed 0.220 / 1.0 parties will not sit in the same longhouse. The updates hub is where later hotfixes should land; this page stays the launch snapshot so we do not rewrite history every time a crash fix ships.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Viking questions.

What is new in Valheim 1.0 besides Deep North?

Weapons, four armor sets, capes, trinkets, creatures, 80+ build pieces, 20+ foods, Haldor pockets, 53 achievements, draw distance, hammer menus, Magica cloth, Ashlands spawn tuning, all hairstyles, and a Unity upgrade.

Do I need to buy the game again?

No. Early Access owners update free. New purchases are $29.99. Typical download is about 4.3 GiB.

Which platforms launched with 1.0?

Steam Win/Mac/Linux, Xbox One and Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, with full crossplay. See the players hub for join codes.

Who is the Deep North boss?

Kall Fimbulbringer, after Fader. Use How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer for Malicious Blood and the Aesir Passage.

Should my clan start a new world?

Yes if you want intended biome layouts. Pre-explored terrain will not regenerate Deep North. Characters can move to a new seed.

Where do later patches go on this wiki?

The updates hub. This page is the 9 September 2026 launch snapshot, not a live hotfix blog.
