Valheim Console commands, not redeem codes

Valheim does not ship redeemable promo codes. If a site promises free Bloodgold from a 12-character key, close it. This Codes Hub documents the developer console: cheats and admin tools you type after enabling the overlay. Use them on a world you host. They are off on a vanilla dedicated server unless you add a server-side mod.

Using cheat commands disables achievements for that session. The Hammer world preset counts as a temporary cheat for the same reason. If you care about the 53 1.0 achievements, keep a clean survival world and experiment elsewhere.

How to enable the console

On PC, open Settings → Gameplay → Enable Console. Alternatively add the Steam launch option -console (Properties → General → Launch Options). Load a world and press F5 (Fn+F5 on some laptops).

On Xbox and other controllers, hold LB + RB + Menu (Options). If nothing appears, include the triggers: LT + RT + LB + RB + Options. Press A for the on-screen keyboard. After the first open, clicking both sticks often toggles the overlay. Enable Console in Gameplay if the combo does nothing.

Type help to list commands that work without cheats. ping shows latency. save forces a world save. Those two are safe on a server you administer.

Turn cheats on with devcommands

In the console, type devcommands and press Enter. The old imacheater string is gone. Type devcommands again to turn cheats off. Vanilla dedicated servers ignore cheat toggles; you would need a client/server mod such as a server-devcommands pack, and that is a group decision, not a default.

Useful cheat commands after the toggle:

• god — take no damage (hunger still ticks).
• ghost — enemies ignore you.
• fly — creative flight without debugmode.
• heal — refill health.
• spawn <prefab> [count] [level] — items or creatures. Example: spawn Wood 50.
• raiseskill <skill> <amount> — push a skill up. Spelling must match the skill name.
• explorermap — reveal the map. resetmap hides it again.
• debugmode — extra build/fly tools. While it is on: Z toggles fly, K toggles no build cost, B toggles free placement (no support checks).

debugmode plus K is the fastest way to mock a longhouse layout. For a whole creative world, the Hammer preset on world modifiers is cleaner than typing nocost every session.

Admin commands on servers you run

Kick and ban still matter when you host. If your Steam ID (or platform ID) is in the server adminlist.txt, you can kick <player> and ban <player> from the console without devcommands. unban reverses a ban. banned lists them. Player-hosted “start server” worlds treat the host as admin; dedicated boxes need the file edited while the process is stopped. Do not share adminlist contents in public Discord. Rotate a password if you pasted it into a screenshot.

When you should not cheat

Console tools are excellent for testing a boss arena, recovering a friend who fell through terrain, or greyboxing a build. They are a poor substitute for progression: metals still cannot portal on default modifiers, and spawning flametal into a Meadows hut skips the entire combat loop. If the group only wants softer combat or metal-through-portals, change sliders on world modifiers instead of turning god on for everyone.

Keyboard binds for the overlay live next to movement keys; if F5 fights a laptop overlay, use the in-game Enable Console toggle and check the controls guide for the rest of the map.

Cheats do not make a dedicated vanilla server spawn items for clients. If devcommands prints true locally and still does nothing after you connect, you are on a dedicated process. Switch to a player-hosted world or accept that the server owner must install extra software.

Keep a backup before spawning bosses in a long-running map. A mistyped prefab can drop a creature you cannot put back. save after a successful test so a crash does not roll you to an older file.
